不過，據外媒報導，中餐正在逐漸占領人們的聖誕菜單。
尤其在猶太裔美國人的聖誕餐桌上，讓人們垂涎三尺的美食可能並不是烤火雞，而是左宗棠雞(General Tso's chicken)。
也許你還不知道，在美國，猶太人聖誕節吃中餐的傳統已經有100多年的歷史了。
近日，Vox新媒體網站寫了一篇文章揭秘這其中的歷史淵源。
文章作者採訪了紐約大都會猶太教堂(Metropolitan Synagogue in New York)的教士、 《一個猶太人的聖誕節》(A Kosher Christmas)的作者Joshua Eli Plaut。
Plaut介紹道，美國猶太人在中國餐館吃飯可以追溯到1899年，當時，猶太移民與中國移民比鄰而居。
It begins at the end of the 19th century, on the Lower East Side, where Jewish and Chinese immigrants lived in close proximity. By 1936, a publication called the East Side Chamber News reported at least 18 Chinese tea gardens and chop suey eateries in heavily-populated Jewish neighborhoods.

Google Trends data lends some insight, showing that searches for 「Chinese food」 spike on Christmas compared to any other day of the year. On Yelp, the same pattern emerged: For the past six years, page views for Chinese restaurants peaked on December 25th, all more than doubling their usual share.

▌猶太教的潔食規定

In terms of kosher law, a Chinese restaurant is a lot safer than an Italian restaurant. In Italian food, there is mixing of meat and dairy. A Chinese restaurant doesn't mix meat and dairy, because Chinese cooking is virtually dairy-free.
